Smritinsha is a twelve-residence residential development in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, conceived, funded, designed and delivered by Madhu Kamath.
Some careers follow a straight line. Mine did not.
I trained in computer science, built a couture design house, designed luxury residences, and eventually created the home I could not find.
The journey began with a simple problem.
For years, I searched for a home that combined space, light, ventilation, privacy and practicality in a way that felt complete. I visited property after property, yet none offered the balance I was looking for. The homes available were either poorly planned, inefficiently laid out or disconnected from the way families actually lived.
The home I wanted simply did not exist.
So I decided to build it.
What began as a search for one family home evolved into something much larger. Families around me shared the same frustrations and expressed interest in the vision. One residence became twelve.
Smritinsha required far more than construction. Land had to be assembled, agreements structured, approvals secured, infrastructure planned, stakeholders aligned and delivery managed from concept through completion.
The project was funded through presales, delivered without bank finance and completed as a fully occupied residential development in one of Hyderabad’s most established neighbourhoods.
Today, nearly two decades later, the building continues to perform as intended. The basements remain dry, the infrastructure continues to function and the homes remain occupied by families who chose them for the same reasons that inspired the project in the first place.
For me, Smritinsha was never just a building.
It was the answer to a question:
What happens when the home you are looking for cannot be found?
You build it.
